A New Chapter: Welcome to Its Kayla Mae!

Hi! It’s Kayla Mae and I am so happy that you are here. I am beyond excited to be finally writing this YAY. I wanted to write a little introduction post so you can get to know me a little bit and understand why I wanted to start this blog.

About Me

A little about me: I am 22 years old and I love to fill my time with my hobbies and trying new things. I studied marketing at The University of Pittsburgh and graduated in December of 2023. Since then I have gone through so much change and self discovery, and I’m honestly still trying to figure it all out!

Being A 20-Something…

Being in your early twenties is truly such a strange time. There is so much that you don’t know about yourself, and you’re trying to figure it all out while maintaining balance and everything feels like it’s always falling apart.

But being in your twenties is also such a whirlwind, it’s fun and exciting and new and scary and emotional all at once. It’s that mix of feelings that makes it both challenging and beautiful.

As I’ve navigated this period of my life, I’ve had time to explore my hobbies and learn a lot about myself. I have always been a creative person, craft supplies always brought me so much happiness as a kid and I’ve gotten to rediscover that side of myself in my adult years. Throughout college I thought I’d end up creating ads or media in a marketing role, but I quickly realized that wasn’t for me. I needed something more fulfilling. I want to create something that is meaningful, and that’s exactly what this blog is about.

Hobbies!

Having hobbies makes life fulfilling in ways I never fully appreciated until I took a step back. They’ve been a part of me all along, shaping who I am today. It’s crazy to think back to when I was 18, sitting in my freshman dorm preparing for sorority recruitment. When they asked me about my hobbies during my first interview, I froze. I genuinely couldn’t think of one. Now? I could rattle off a list without even trying. I realized that I’ve always had hobbies, I just didn’t feel comfortable labeling them as such back then.

During this time I had every form of social media; Instagram, TikTok, Snapchat, YouTube, Twitter, and so on. So much of my free time was spent on these platforms, rather than my hobbies, and they sort of overshadowed what I really loved to do, create.

In July of 2023, I randomly decided to delete all of my social media (except Pinterest and YouTube). At first, it was intimidating because of the societal pressure to stay connected online. There was a strange adjustment period, but now it’s been over two years and I can confidently say that it is SO worth it. It is one of the best decisions I’ve made, the time I’ve gained back is priceless.

Creating Its Kayla Mae

Which brings me here today. I want to help you step away from the digital noise, even just a little, and make room for real life experiences through hobbies. We’re all stuck in this digital world, and it’s easy to forget that there is SO much more to life when we are glued to our phones. My goal is to inspire you to pick up a hobby, be creative, or simply learn to enjoy life offline.

I created this blog to give you a space to explore your hobbies, get creative, and take a break from the screen. Whether you’re into reading, crafting, or discovering new things, I’m here to help guide you to the hobbies that make you feel alive.

You’ll find pages dedicated to books, crafts, and a whole “hobby corner” where I share everything else that I love to do. I’m so excited for you to join me on this adventure, and I can’t wait to see what hobbies spark joy for you.

xoxo,

Kayla Mae 🩷
